Við Djúpið summer courses and music festival

The annual music festival and summer courses Við Djúpið are held in Ísafjörður (further) and surroundings where music has been part of daily life for a long time. Ísafjörður Music School is the main venue of the festival as well as Rögnvaldur Ólafsson´s Art School, which offers great new venues in the Edinborg house.

The master classes are held in close cooperation with the Iceland Academy of the Arts, and are accredited by its Department of Music. Note that registration is done through the website of the festival Við Djúpið. If you have difficulties registering please contact the festival organizers.

The festival has offered master classes and concerts with nation wide and world wide known artists, such as Erling Böndal Bengtsson, cellist and Vovka Ashkenazy, pianist as well as the Pacifica Quartet. In 2007 Evan Ziporyn, clarinettist, composer and a member of the renowned band Bang on a Can gave a master class and concert in Ísafjörður during Við Djúpið.

Our community

"The contents of our studies work great with the location! Smart, ad-venturous and like minded people come here from around the world. I love that the program is cross disciplinary and that we have a lot of one-to-one time with our instructors when they are here. I am more committed to UW than to my home university."
Ryan O´Connell, Canada, CMM student 2010-2011
