      	<![CDATA[The 6th Open Assembly of the Northern Research Forum (NRF), Our Ice Dependent world, is to be held on October 24th - 27th, 2010 in Oslo and Kirkenes, Norway. The event is organized together with the 6th NRF Host Planning Committee. Young researchers and professionals who have passed their MA and plan to complete a doctoral degree or have recently completed a doctoral degree, are eligible to receive full or partial travel funding from the NRF in order to participate.

      <title><![CDATA[The Development Fund for Immigration Issues open for applications]]></title>

      	<![CDATA[The Immigration Board announces that they are open for applications for grants from the Development Fund for Immigration Issues for the year 2009. The Fund's purpose is to enhance research and development projects in the field of immigration issues with the goal of facilitating mutual adjustment between immigrants and Icelandic society. <br /><br />The closing date for applications is 15. January 2010. For more information please follow <a href="http://www.hsvest.is/development_fund_for_immigration_issues/" target="_blank">this link.</a><br /><br />The Development Fund for Immigration Issues was founded in 2007 by the Ministry of Social Affairs and this is the third time that grants are being allotted.       <title><![CDATA[The Leifur Eiríksson Foundation Grants]]></title>

      	<![CDATA[The Leifur Eir&iacute;ksson Foundation announces grants for scholars from Icelandic universities for graduate research or study at universities in the United States

<p><strong>Applications must be received by December 4, 2009. Supporting documents, i.e. letters of reference and transcripts, must be received no later than December 14, 2009.</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Leifur Er&iacute;ksson Foundation has decided to grant 6 scholarships of up to $25.000 each for graduate research or study during the school year 2010-11. The Foundation funds scholars from U.S. universities for graduate research or studies at universities in Iceland, and scholars from universities in Iceland to conduct research and study at universities in the United States. All fields of study are included.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Recipients are chosen by the Foundation's Board of Trustees.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

      <title><![CDATA[New CMM Program Director]]></title>

      	<![CDATA[The University Centre of the Westfjords received 13 applications for the position of Programme Director for the master&lsquo;s in Coastal and Marine Management, advertised due to maternity leave. <br /><br />All applicants held at least one masters degree, four applicants held PhDs. Nine applicants held a degree in integrated coastal zone management, resource management, or marine sciences. Six applicants were foreigners. As this isn&lsquo;t a teacher nor research position, relevant management experience was important.
<p><br />Eight applicants were invited for job interviews, personally or through skype. The application committee is pleased to announce that Dagn&yacute; Arnarsd&oacute;ttir has been offered and accepted the position. </p>
<p><br />Dagn&yacute; Arnarsd&oacute;ttir holds a masters in Environmental and Resource management from the University of Iceland. She has experience in human resource management, event management, public relations and teaching. She has been working for the Society of Environmental Scientists and is currently a project manager in the international programme in Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Iceland.</p>]]>
