Three of our new students from the master´s programme in Coastal and Marine Management, Abby Sullivan, USA; Petra Granholm, Aland Islands, Finland and Sarah Nebel, Canada, recently joined the Ísafjörður department of the Icelandic Red Cross for volunteer work. The Ísafjörður deptartment currently has a relationship with a the Red Cross department in Gambia, located in the North Bank. Ninth grade (age 14) students from the Ísafjörður elementary school have been engaged in this collaboration since last year. They have been gathering information about the country and have written letters to their peers with the assistance of Red Cross volunteers who were in last year´s group of master students.

The students presented their work last week and invited board members of the Ísafjörður Red cross as well as the new volunteers to come and listen. The young students gave presentations in English and everyone was very happy to meet the new volunteers and are looking forward to working together.

Our community

"My fellow students are so lovely and you learn more in a good group. The staff and the teachers at the University Center do everything they can to help and to make the course interesting and fun. All I can say is: Come to Ísafjörður and see how exciting it is to learn Icelandic!"
