The course mainly focuses on the human dimension of climate change. Topics covered will include: Public awareness and media communication on climate change and global warming, hazard assessment and adaptation for coastal areas, socio-economic and political considerations, mitigation policy options, and impacts of climate change and variation on human societies and human security. Linkages to coastal environments and communities will be emphasized.

Dr. Helgi Jensson holds a PhD in Biochemistry from Stockholm's University. He has worked for the Icelandic Directorate of Shipping as an expert in marine pollution. Since 1995, Helgi has been an employee of the Environment Agency of Iceland (EA); first as an expert in monitoring and assessment of the environment, then as director of Environmental Supervision Division, dealing with variety of tasks including EIA, monitoring and data handling, and finally, as the Environment Agency's senior consultant (present job). In his position at EA, Helgi has represented Iceland in various leading committees and international working groups dealing with monitoring an environmental issues.

Auður Ingólfsdóttir earned her MA in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Boston (USA) in international relations with a specialization in Environment and Resource Policy. She has been a coordinator for a master's program in environmental studies at the University of Iceland, worked as a special advisor in the international office of the Ministry for the Environment, and as an environmental consultant. For the last two years she has worked for international missions as an expert from the Icelandic Crisis Response Unit of the Foreign Ministry. Auður's proposed doctoral dissertation will focus on the human security dimension of climate change in the Arctic, using Iceland as a case study. The research will explore the links between climate change and human security. The topic will be analyzed within the framework of IR theories, using in particular feminist theories, looking at power structures and decision making processes related to climate change policies.

Dagný Arnarsdóttir holds a master's degree from the Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) program at the University of Iceland (UI). In her's master's thesis, Dagný studied the Corporate Social Responsibility discourse in Iceland and based her methodology on similar reseaches on climate change discourses in neighbouring countries. Paralell with her masters studies 2006-2009, Dagný worked as a freelance assistant for Iceland's Specialist Committee for the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, did an internship for the Environmental Agency of Iceland where she proposed a national sustainability indicator set, worked project based for the Icelandic Association of Environmental Scienctits (FUMÍ), taught ethics at Reykjavík's Adult Education Center and, for two years, was the coordinator for the ENR masters program at UI. Dagný is now the program director of the CMM masters program in Ísafjörður, Iceland.

Daniel Martin holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Paris-Orsay and is currently in charge of the "Management and Impacts of Climate Change (GICC)" research programme at the MEEDDM/CGDD/DRI/SR. In the framework of the ERA-net CIRCLE, he coordinates the 1st pilot call of the Mediterranean group dealing with "water management and coastal areas".
Researcher at Météo France and at the CNRS (Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement), for 30 years on the field of tropospheric chemistry, he joined the department of environment (air quality) within the Department of Institutional Relations and International Affairs (DII) of Météo France. He was a member of the Scientific Research Program PRIMEQUAL council. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Meteorological Society of France and member of the Scientific Council of the journal Pollution Atmospherique.
