Prerequisites, Textbooks, Levels

We expect that you have worked through the "Icelandic Online" internet course on your own. Please calculate approximately 50 hours of work for the whole online course. It is accessible at www.icelandic.hi.is. Our course will build on this basic vocabulary and grammar. Please note that it is better to do the first three chapters diligently than to hurry through the whole course.

The course materials are provided by the teachers in the form of photocopies and other materials. The material is not included in the course fee, and will be available in the University Centre of the Westfjords on arrival for ISK 3.000. We expect you to bring your own basic dictionary. Basic dictionaries are also available in the local bookstores in Ísafjörður.

There will be one group, CEFR-level A2 plus B1. You will find the CEFR-standards under the following link: Common European Framework of References for Languages.

Prerequisites: Icelandic Online all with very good results, fast teaching pace, good background in related languages and in grammar.

Our community

"Iceland has a strong cultural heritage in a harsh environment with good community organization. The Icelandic learning experience has left me reeling with enthusiasm for coastal management, given me colleagues for life and left me with a moustache."

Henry Fletcher, England CMM student 2008 - 2009
