The Development Fund for Immigration Issues

The Development Fund for Immigration Issues was founded in 2007 by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the administration of the Fund is partly in the hands of the University Centre of the Westfjords.

The Fund's purpose is to enhance research and development projects in the field of immigration issues, with the goal of making it easier for immigrants to adjust to Icelandic society and of improving society's preparedness to accommodate immigrants.

Grants must, as a rule, be awarded to associations, unions and public entities. Immigrant grassroots associations and interest groups are encouraged to apply to the Fund. Individuals will, as a rule, only be awarded grants for research. Grants are allotted on an annual basis and the funds available are ISK 10 million. Applications can be written in Icelandic or English.

Application form and rules of the fund are to be found in the menu to the left.

Our community

"Iceland has a strong cultural heritage in a harsh environment with good community organization. The Icelandic learning experience has left me reeling with enthusiasm for coastal management, given me colleagues for life and left me with a moustache."

Henry Fletcher, England, CMM student 2008 - 2009
